prologue:
It should happened in September 2006: our first European Tour, which we accomplished with ELUVEITE from Switzerland. Onstage and behind – they turned out to be truly worthily companions. The tour was organized and realized with the support of EINHEIT PRODUKTIONEN and the Dutch label FEAR DARK and we experienced this time as two
of the most beautiful weeks of last year.

they were involved:

Team Switzerland:
Team Thuringia:
Chrigel – vocals, mandola, uilleann pipes and whatever on whistles
Sevan– all kinds of whistles, bagpipe and vocals
Rafi – bass and vocals
Mer i– fiddle and vocals
Anna – hurdy-gurdy and vocals
Simeon – guitar and vocals
Ivo – guitar
Merlin – drums-wizard
Gian – the extroverted sound-engineer
Kim – the Dutchman of FEAR DARK as tour-manager
Fix – electric and acoustic guitars, vocals and
tour-neurotic
Stickel – guitar, vocals and mead provisioner, especially
of the “6 a.m. team”
Maik – our replacement bass-player and ...?
Veit – violin
Natalie – vocals and nurse
Philipp – drums and upholder of moral standards
Kelly – light-engineer and practical jokes
Kai – merchandiser

Our standard toast on tour was: “for Marley!”, because in need of his work he was not able to come with us.
Rumors says, this toast sounded till early morning…

Friday, 08.09.06 Bad Salzungen (Ger) – KW 70

With the delay of the bus we had also a good start. Due to the lost time the bus driver could not collect us in Schmalkalden and we tried to get our complete equipment to Bad Salzungen somehow.
There finally arrived we discovered immediately the Swiss, as well as Ingo our bus driver, who evaluated in the next two weeks without partiality the consumption of alcohol both of the bands. We must also mention, that the already tour experienced Ingo is also a musician. He plays bass-guitar in his own band which is strangely named: “THE SHIT EATING MOTHERFUCKERS AND THE TITTY TWISTING CHILI PUSSIES”.

The opener of the first evening was PESTIS, a local Black Metal Band from Thuringia.
In front of approximately 200 good-humored guests, our actual bass-player Manuel give its only concert of the tour and during the encores and in the following evenings he was acceptable replaced from the GERNOTSHAGEN guitarist Maik, who helped us out short-dated. The atmosphere was good for all involved people, the catering excellent and the thirst was not to allay. For this reason we walked decadently after door conclusion of the KW70 to a closed-by Techno discotheque.

all drunken!?!

Unfortunately this was the last still open and alcohol promising location, what us simplified the heavy decision to visit such an establishment. For some of us the first evening ended with high-standing sun in the small hours…

well filled?!?

Saturday, 09.09.06 Leipzig (Ger) - Hellraiser

Obviously hangovered, the entire community went in direction Leipzig on the next day, to the well-known Metal-club HELLRAISER, where we received with sufficient catering.
We were supported by the pagan metal-heads of THRUDVANGAR, which opened the concert before reserved listeners. At first with ELUVEITIE, which performed this evening as headliner, the atmosphere comes better and they fascinate the guests.
The originally still planned CD release party of MASTODON unfortunately fells out also, whereupon we drunk our own mead provisions on the bus to keep in good humor.

Sunday, 10.09.06 Berlin (Ger) – K17

The third day led us into the German capital, where we already arrived at the early afternoon. Most used the possibility to visit the city or kill the time until the sound-check in a cafe. NEITHAN, a Black Metal Band from Berlin, took over the support in this evening.

Meanwhile we stayed in the small but from FOLTER RECORDS well filled backstage room and suspicious we observed how Kelly decimated the beer provisions. First time on tour both bands had a great sound on stage and we played in front of approximately 100 happy guests. After the concert our every evening odyssey led us into the few hundred meters away located JAILBREAK, a Metal Pub which had to endure us till the gates closed.

However Kelly, Veit, Anna, Stickel and Merlin did not have enough yet and discovered their true paradise. At 7 o'clock a.m, when the twins Rafi and Sevan – also well known as brothers „terrible“- made themselves on their way to the “Brandenburger Tor”, the last of us wobbled then finally in.

the paradise!!!

Monday, 11.09.06 Stavenhagen (Ger) – Tankhaus

Before the journey continued towards Stavenhagen, we unfortunately could not leave Berlin in time, since the bus had a breakdown and had to be repaired. To late arrived at the TANKHAUS, a beautiful but in solitude lying club, we offloaded our equipment quickly, so that the sound-check could done in time.

Ingo

Like we supposed, only a few listeners traveled on a Monday evening into this wasteland, whole 34 paying visitors arrived and the evening starts with the really mysterious MYTHOS NORD. Despite the small number of visitors the evening was a pleasure because of our present sword brothers from Torgelow, some other friends and the welfare service of the two organizers Jub and Ded. Particularly the aftershow party remained in our memory because Simes birthday gave us a good reason to thin out again our mead provisions and to destroy the beer crate, which Philipp oppressed out from the barmaids.

Tuesday, 12.09.06 Hamburg (Ger) – Marx
At 2 o'clock p.m. we arrived in the Hanseatic town Hamburg and first done a stop at ALTERNATIV BUS REISEN, where we got a marvelous breakfast. Of course not all of us were able to enjoy it after last night, nevertheless a great service.

Afterwards we went to the MARKTHALLE, where the gig for that day should be. The backstage was furnished really Spartan but the probably best meal of the whole tour made this deficiency forgotten.
Without support band we entered the stage first and the crowded club MARX was literally close to burst at the seams. During both bands the public resonance leave nothing to be desired and at the end ELUVEITIE performed the cover song “run to the hills”.
Despite the boozy last night we evinced no tiredness and drove with three taxis into the city. Even our bus driver accompanied the entire group into the well-known Metalpub NIGHTLIFE, where we banged our heads.
The female barkeeper Marion here was already Hamburg and Metal purely. With enthusiasm she gave us gladly Tequila one by one and after our wall inscription Bloody Mary for free. After that she mentioned, that we are more enjoyable than NEVERMORE?!

Wednesday, 13.09.06 first day off

The first and meanwhile really necessary day off was directly used to wandering around culture historical megalithic tombs. More infos!

Subsequent we drove towards Netherlands and stayed overnight at any parking site, where our otherwise decently tour manager Kim for the first time was drunken and showed us his true face?!?

a

Thursday, 14.09.06 second day off

For Thursday originally a gig in the HELVETE in Dortmund was planned, which unfortunately fell out. We used the second day off to relax again and decided to visit the North Sea Coast.

Whereas some of us drove to Leeuwarden for a city-stroll, the remainder set with a ferry over to Ameland to enjoy a bath. With us in the Thuringian party “ugly” was again the renegade Swiss Simeon, which turned out soon as a worthy “replacement Thuringian”. In the evening we met us all in the town again, still stayed in some taverns, before we slept in an area outside of the city.

Friday, 15.09.06 Leeuwarden (NL) - Muziekcafè de Gloppe

After all had a good sleep, we drove back again into the city and spent a few hours to hang around and in Internet cafés.
By the way, we have to attest that there are the most beautiful girls on their way in this town.

During they are looking for girls Kelly, Kai, Fix and Maik (also named “Flowerpot”) got only to know a man named Eddie. He was an absolutely crazy freak which treated them some beer. Of course therefore he got a place on the guest-list for this evening.

Eddie

Arrived in DE GLOPPE we quarreled us for the from all desired shower and enjoyed the catering. But previously we had to haul our equipment a long way to the club, because the bus was not able to travel on this little street.
Naturally the last days don't leave us untouched. After Chrigel had some problems with his vocal chords, he was carried into a hospital and also the rest of us had some trouble with the vocal tone.
Till this day, ELEXORIEN played the best support show.

Kim

As we started to play, we loss the monitors on stage and tormented ourselves in a blind flight through our set-list. Afterwards we were astonished not badly, as the Swiss again played a great gig, despite the terrible PA system.
After we reloaded the bus, we still drove in the night to Belgium. On the strength of the general exhaustion, it was a relatively calm evening.

a

Saturday, 16.09.06 Hasselt (B) – De Witte Non

From the very first we jested about one thing, that should be on this day. After the breakfast at a motorway restaurant we went on carelessly, till after many kilometers Philipp was frightened asking “Where is Kelly?”.
We searched for him in the whole bus, but were not able to find our normally immense light-engineer.

We drove back to the roadhouse, collected the forgotten one and went on to Hasselt and should find the smallest club we ever played in.
The mixer was approximately half as large as the stage, but the owner insured us its enough space for 200 guests in the DE WITTE NON (the white nun) - really unbelievable. Also there was no backstage, we changed our clothes on the road and instead of a meal we got five drinks for free. The heck with it!
With sauna like temperatures the Swiss start to play without support band and the sweat seeped from the ceiling. We and the wild celebrating fans are not troubled by the enormous heat, but our guitars decided to strike. During the first song one of Stickels guitar strings ripped and already with the next song Fix had the same problems and required the backup guitar, which just today stayed in the bus because of the lack of space.

street musicians

During the breaks we calmed down the fans with mead, which we poured in their dry throats and even though the violin turned out also, it was a great concert and once more a beautiful evening.

Sunday, 17.09.06 Rotterdam (NL) – Baroeg

Back in Holland we reached at 1 o'clock p.m. Rotterdam and the renowned club BAROEG. Already on the early afternoon the first Band CONORACH started to play in front of 105 guests.

true

This time the sound on stage and before was quit good, a completely new experience after the last concerts and after seven songs we gave way for ELUVEITE, which are not leaved alone by the fans till they played all extras.
On a Sunday evening its not much going on at the outskirts of Rotterdam and after we consumed our free drinks we entered a closed by tavern. Veit and Philipp performed a magnificent drinking contest which ends 7:6 for Veit. Like always at 6 o'clock a.m. the last of us fall asleep.

Monday, 18.09.06 Arnheim (NL) – Goudvishal

The last Gig in Holland took place in the legendary GOUDVISHAL, where we were shocked by the extremely steep stairs, which seemed insurmountable for drunken people.
Upstairs we found fruits, sweets, sandwiches and two large refrigerators filled with any kind of drinks, obviously a further day with outstanding catering.

The local band THRONAR, which by the way formed the term “Battle Metal” as first, opened the evening with good sound and a amazing show.
After ELUVEITIE stirred up the well filled club, we were in turn.

Thronar

Eluveitie

For the first time during the tour we played Bathory´s “Man of Iron” as addition and said good-bye to the great guests.
After that we packed our equipment into the bus as fast as possible, because we had planned to drink with our friends of HEIDEVOLK in their local STÖRTEBECKER.

Unfortunately this tavern was closed on Monday and we finally arrived in the DE BEUK (the belly). Sebas of HEIDEVOLK told us, that Arnheim is the capitol of Gelderland and the name descended from eagles which once lived here.

Also in this tavern the drinks were great and with wine, girls and singing Kelly clearly reached the goal as first. For his outstanding presentation of the song “märkische Heide” we awarded him the imaginary yellow jersey on the next morning.

Tuesday, 19.09.06 Gent (B) - Frontline

Fix had warned us of this club, because for some time he played there with MENHIR.

As we arrived it was not possible to build up our equipment, first we had to clean the stage from all trash. The sewers also not really functioned, after every flushing there are some undefined fluids on the house wall and the fetidness was awful.
But there are more surprises: no catering, no drinks and after we bought our own water and beer outside in a store, the organizer told us we should not take our own drinks with us in the concert hall or we should pay for. Of course we ignored this…
Bad tempered we played after the support band TRUDUS our poorest gig on tour and after ELUVEITIE finished, we had a little conflict with the organizer, which really tried to get some money from us, for an inactive club-own sound-engineer.

All together we placed ourselves behind Kim, which told the organizer that this was not provided in the contract. After the melee we left this place without paying the inactive guy.
Nothing like away from here!

Wednesday, 20.09.06 Uster (CH) – Rock City

After a long journey to Switzerland finally again a great location! In contrast to Tuesday expected us a pleasant organizer, excellent catering, clean showers, amazing sound and great fans.
Without support band we started our show in front of a inspired and inspiring Swiss audience.

Back in their homeland and seeing again their friends, ELUVEITIE also doing their best and the hairs flew till the last tone. Because we had to celebrate the birthdays of Kai and Merlin we had a good reason to pass the night waking. All in all a evening to remember.

a

Thursday, 21.09.06 St. Maurice (CH) – Le Manoir

On the next day we traveled through the mountains. After we arrived in St. Maurice, we walked around in the small city. High mountains and fine sunshine all around us, really beautiful.
Only the communication was extreme difficult, because we stayed in the French speaking part of Switzerland.
Despite of the small number of guests it was a great evening and after we enjoyed the “all inclusive bar” the organizer drove with us to a nearby disco.

The DJ obeyed immediately, when Philipp told him he should play some AC/DC. The hair flew and Gian and Stickel performed the Angus Young dancing step. Thus also the last day in Switzerland ended again during the dawn.

Friday, 22.09.06 Lustenau (A) – Culture Factory

Already somewhat wistfully we arrived in the early afternoon in Lustenau at Lake Constance.
We enjoyed the showers and the service of the organizers: drinks, sandwiches and mead for all. A good start into the evening!
The this time again more numerously presented public celebrated (like the bands) a fantastic evening till the last chords.
Considering that this is the second last common night, we decided to visit a local Pub after the concert. Unfortunately soon the pub closed and tired we went back to the bus, this time not so drunken as usual.

a

Saturday, 23.09.06 München (Ger) – Titanic City

Back again in Germany, Munich should be our last stop. Anyway it was hard to belief that the tour is soon over, but after some beer the world doesn't looked so dark.
After the sound-check we welcomed some friends and soon the little TITANIC CITY was filled to capacity.
Already as we started the tour, we had planed to play some songs together with both bands during the last show. But then, one hour before the last concert started, we finally considered which songs we play.
On this day we had two support bands: Helfahrt from Germany and Italy's AISLING, which played both a good show.
After that we entered the stage and in high spirits the phenomenal public gave us the best background to call the guest musicians on stage. Sime played “Iring” on the bass-guitar and Chrigel and Rafi supported us with backing vocals. Sevan replaced Veit during “Ride on” with the whistle, Chrigel played the mandola and Meri shared with Veit the violin solo.

In return during ELUVEITIE Maik played the mandola on “Aidu”, while Natalie sang together with Meri. Gian, which once recorded the “Ven” mini-album as vocalist, blared his part at “Uis Elveti” and Kim and Stickel supported the Swiss during “The endless knot”.
As addition nearly both bands together performed the IRON MAIDEN cover “Run to the hills”, the last highlight of a great tour and a crowning conclusion.

The evening in the Munich club then doesn't ends, they continued with a metal disco.

Unfortunately some of the Swiss had to go past of the show and after a last group photo the first eyes were filled with tears.
The remainders inebriated themselves with mead and beer and we banged our heads during the metal disco in the TITANIC CITY.

epilogue:

On Sunday morning we and the last of the Swiss went home. During the ride we spoke about the common spent time, new friendships and remembered two beautiful and for all successful passed weeks. At late afternoon we reached our hometowns and Fix was probably the only person which was happy to come home.
By the way: only 7 of 120 bottles of mead remained.
Our result: gladly every time again!

The text was logged, compressed and concealed by Natalie, Stickel and Fix.
